Bandwidth is the first requirement
Around 15 Mbps gives you dependable HD. For 4K you want 30 Mbps or more, measured at the time of day you watch rather than at three in the morning. Speed shared across a busy household is the usual reason a 4K stream drops back to HD.
Your network matters more than your TV
A wired connection is the single biggest improvement available to most people. If running a cable is impractical, 5 GHz Wi-Fi with the router in the same room is the next best thing. A 4K panel on a congested 2.4 GHz network will not deliver 4K, however good the panel is.
Not everything is broadcast in 4K
This is worth being straight about. A service can only deliver the quality the broadcaster produces. Films and flagship sport are widely available in Ultra HD; a regional news channel is not, and no provider can change that.
Getting the most from what you have
Use the device app rather than a browser where you can, keep the player updated, and if you are streaming to more than one screen make sure your package allows it. A second stream starting on a one screen plan is the most common cause of a picture that suddenly stops.
